Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ELO rankings, match logging, groups, and how Budelo works.
General
Budelo is an ELO-based ranking tracker built specifically for friend groups, offices, and casual sports clubs. Instead of relying on vague win/loss records, Budelo uses the ELO algorithm to give every player a numerical rating that accurately reflects their skill relative to the group. Log a match, and every player's ELO updates instantly.
Any competition with a winner and a loser. The obvious ones: table tennis, football, FIFA, foosball, pool, darts, basketball, golf, chess. The less obvious ones: who finishes their drink first, who a cat chooses to sit with, who folds laundry fastest. If your group argues about who won, Budelo settles it permanently.
Yes. Budelo has a free tier that includes everything you need to get started. Free groups support up to 8 members, full ELO tracking, match logging, and a live leaderboard. Budelo Premium (€3.99 per month, paid per group) unlocks unlimited members, custom rank tiers, custom emblems, streaks, group stats dashboard, shareable season recap graphics, and overtake push notifications.
ELO and Rankings
ELO is a mathematical rating system invented by physicist Arpad Elo in the 1960s, originally for competitive chess. It has since been adopted by FIFA for international football rankings and by countless competitive games online. Your rating goes up when you win and down when you lose, but the amount it changes depends on the expected outcome. Beat someone much higher-ranked and you gain a lot. Lose to someone much lower-ranked and you lose a lot.
The exact amount depends on your current rating, your opponent's rating, and the result. If you are closely matched, a win or loss moves your rating by a moderate amount. Beat someone significantly higher-ranked and you gain more. Lose to someone significantly lower-ranked and you lose more. Budelo also supports an optional margin of victory multiplier (up to 2x) for groups that track scores.
When a season ends, ELO ratings are reset so the new season starts fresh. Your previous season's final ranking and rating are saved permanently in your player profile and season history.
Yes. Budelo supports wins, losses, and draws. In ELO terms, a draw is treated as each player receiving half a win, your rating adjusts based on whether that draw was expected or not.

Group admins can delete a mistakenly logged match. When a match is deleted, the ELO changes from that match are reversed for all participants.
Yes. Beyond 1v1, Budelo supports team vs team matches where ELO is calculated based on the average rating of each team. It also supports free-for-all formats for multiplayer games.
Groups and Seasons
Yes, there is no limit on how many groups you can join. Each group has its own completely independent leaderboard, ELO ratings, and seasons.
A season is a defined competition period with a clear start and end date. When the season ends, a champion is crowned, final rankings are saved, and ratings reset for the next season.
Only group admins can start, end, or configure seasons. The person who creates a group is automatically the admin.
Notifications
Yes. Budelo uses server-sent events to push leaderboard updates live. The moment a match is logged, everyone viewing the leaderboard sees the changes immediately.
